We leave today for Nanning, and will get Zoe tomorrow!!!!!

Yesterday we played tourist again, taking the train into Hong Kong from the airport. We then took the double decker bus to Stanley Market. The bus ride was a bit scarifying, all along mountainous roads, winding VERY close to the edge of the cliff! Stanley Market was fun -- it's like a market in a Mexico border town, lots of kiosks and stalls with some nice stuff and some junk. Lots of designer knock-offs and Chinese handicrafts. My mom bought a very nice oil painting for only $30HK, which is less than $5 american.

After taking the bus back from Stanley Market, we took the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor to Kowloon. We walked up and down Nathan Street, which is one of the main shopping streets in Hong Kong. There's everything there from Gucci to cheap souvenirs. We ate lunch at a wonderful Cantonese restaurant. When we got there, we were the only westerners there, but a few more came in later. It was really terrific food, and lovely service and decor.

We then took the Ferry back to Hong Kong, and then the train back to the airport. Of course, we got lost a dozen times trying to find everything and get back to where we came, so I think we must have walked the entire length of Hong Kong 6 times!

Though Hong Kong has been fun, it wasn't quite as exciting as I expected. When I visited Hong Kong in 1991, I loved it and have been dying to go back ever since. But now, all I can think about is getting to Nanning and meeting Zoe!

We're mostly over the jet lag, though we slept last night from 6 p.m. to about 2 a.m., skipping dinner altogether. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant around 6 a.m., and we head out for Nanning on a flight at 12:40 p.m. I don't know what the internet access will be in Nanning, but we'll try to keep you updated on when we get Zoe.
