Today was a pretty quiet day. We ventured out to a street market that is near the hotel, and that was lots of fun. The first part of the market was clothes, and I bought a little yellow outfit for Zoe for 10 yuan, which is about $1.25, and a pair of shoes with bells that jingle, for 5 yuan, which is about 65 cents! I was trying to bargain the price down, when I realized it was only 65 cents -- and that the seller would probably be feeding a family of 4 for that 65 cents!

The next part of the market was the food market, with live chickens and eels and fish, waiting to be bought. There were lots of fruits and vegetables we didn't recognize. One of the vendors gave us a banana for the baby, and Zoe did like it when we got back to the room and broke it up into tiny pieces.

We got some great video, because as we walked to the market we passed a primary school where the kids were playing in the courtyard. They all ran up to the gate to say hello and wave. They thought it was pretty funny when we said Ni Hao (hello in Chinese). We also met several other babies -- anyone carrying a baby had to stop to say hello. One of the babies was wearing split pants (the custom here for baby wear is crotchless pants and no diapers)! It was really lots of fun, and we'll probably go back tomorrow.
