Good news! Our luggage finially caught up with us! We got to enjoy it for about 90 minutes until we had to put it outside our door to be picked up for tomorrow morning's flight. We leave Beijing for Nanning at 7:55 a.m. tomorrow. We'll be heading to the Civil Affairs office around 3:00 p.m. to meet Maya!

We had a busy day today seeing Tianenmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the Great Wall. Zoe was a hoot at Tianenmen Square -- all she wanted was to see the big portrait of Mao (which she remembered from seeing my old photos from Beijing). She kept asking where Mao was, which became a song, "Mao, Mao, Mao-ie, Mao." Which became running commentary once we caught sight of the famous portrait, "Wow! It's Mao! That rhymes! Wow! It's Mao! That rhymes!" I wasn't sure whether she was going to get arrested for heresy or made an honorary member of the Red Guard!

The Forbidden City is a mass of construction and reconstruction, getting it in fine form for the 2008 Olympic Games. It was, indeed, shabbier than I remembered from 1991. But it is still an amazing sight.

The Great Wall was definitely today's highlight. Zoe couldn't wait to rush up the steep steps, and would have gone all the way at break-neck speed if we had let her. She managed to get 3/4 of the way to the top with Mimi (I pooped out at the half-way mark!). She was so proud of herself -- our guide told us that those who climb the Great Wall are called heroes. So Zoe was pleased that she was a hero.

Our internet service has been erratic today. Hopefully it will be better in Nanning, and we'll add some Beijing pictures later. And then, of course, we'll be adding LOTS of pictures of Maya!
